Reading culture in Germany

Very happy to witness Reading culture in Germany when reading habits of people is on the decline.
Here is the experience through my pen.

I couldn’t stop myself noticing the fact that half of the people in my train compartment were actually reading books...

This was my first glimpse of reading culture in Germany. On the way from Aachen to Cologne while I was busy looking outside the window, people were actually reading. I just remembered that there was a time I used to read while traveling by bus, train...

I confess ...with the onset of ever-evolving internet technology, I am reading less

Deutschland looked different on books front though and actually motivated me to once again immerse myself in the world of books...I glanced through some of the books in the hands of the people who were reading. Mostly the titles were German...! Mother tongue is absolutely valued over there.
The next day we were in Dusseldorf and there was a book exhibition (or book market?) near the canal. I was looking forward to buying some books for my daughter. But to my dismay...no books for kids in English...!

Few stalls also had age-old books available, we were glad to look through them.

Strolling through the book fair, we realized there is very little for us as most of the books were Deutsche...

At Dusseldorf train station, we entered ‘Press and Books’. This is a chain of bookstores all over Germany just like ‘Crosswords’. Few English titles were available, but I realized Amazon is the best place to buy books here in Europe...

Anyway, I received a solid proofs of strong reading culture in Germany!

There is a unique pleasure in getting a new book in hand as we get heavenly fragrance...
No other perfume can match that smell...
At last, few good quotes on reading which I found on Google..probably it may help someone(like me) to stay focused on reading...
-I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book ...
-Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing...
-Do not read, as children do, to amuse yourself, or like the ambitious, for the purpose of instruction. No, read in order to live...
